Unexpectedly, my first seasonal earworm is the stone cold classic Dylan cover of Must Be Santa.

Ahh, and they’ve started. Those little pre-shocks of squee realising that this is the last week of work for the year.

08:36

Blue bin just tried a runner to the neighbours’ house. A firm disciplinary stance was taken.

15:47

Opening Mastodon for the first time in a couple of days specifically for the bin chat scene. Stormy weather isn’t the same without updates.

15:43

So while my yellows were mainly just reds, it turns out my reds need a suspicious amount of yellow and blue.

My genuine colourblindness cannot possibly be at fault.

Interesting start to the day: waking from an unremembered dream muttering ‘there is no history’ to myself.

08:18

Reminded today of the sheer power of the expression, ‘he’d give you the shits’. An old favourite of my mum’s. You don’t need it often, but it’s a fine one to have in your pocket.

18:58

Forget the Die-Hard-is-a-Christmas-movie thing, I’m starting the season with the original Ghostbusters(es) and will hear no complaints.

19:41

I was the clever person, the wise person, and also the fool who spent hours on it.

12:05

Just had a perfect illustration of the clever/wise distinction in the Day Job.

The clever approach was all nice techniques to manage a bunch of unrelated moving parts in a large codebase. Did the job well.

The wise approach was to realise that all of the code being modified could just be binned and have the same effect.

With a very similar vibe—but with commentary!—to those Slow TV style train journeys, the Travelling Turtle is perfect dark-autumn-evening chill viewing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?si=RDPy0xm3b5K9VtCG&v=qSQapm0UyWU&feature=youtu.be

@mr_whateley I wish I could get a physical subscription to your blog delivered on glossy paper to my front door.

18:00

I was chatting with a friend today about the catch-22, for those of us so-wired, of needing a self-imposed target in order to achieve anything, then finding the weight of that deadline too much a shackle to move forward at all.

17:46

Words have been written! A tiny number, thousands behind schedule, and badly, but we’re well underway. Might amount to a full paragraph by the end of the month.

17:38

Hmm, I had fully intended to try a NaNo again this year, regardless of the status of the org, yet somehow we’re already on day three and a word count of zero.

10:07

I say that as though it’s different from any other year.

10:07

Looking properly dark and autumnal out there today; more leaves in the wind than rain.

15:04

Slightly astounded that the White House ballroom thing is apparently real and not LLM. Reality seems so vague and easily spooked these days.

16:32

Interesting little video in terms of the amount of money hobby YouTubers with millions of views actually make; and the disincentivising of positivity: https://www.youtube.com/watch?si=pFlvtXvnpGni4VCG&v=nVcrFMfnyyc&feature=youtu.be

Big Duvet nights. The best time of year.
